ASUS X555 Series Disassembly

Your laptop may be slow, but that doesn't mean you need to replace it. Through the year, you might wondering if you can upgrade your laptop by your self rather than send to computer shop or buy new laptop. Good news here! Today we provide an article of basic disassembly of a laptops that might useful to you for future reference.

In this article, we use a 2016 Asus laptop model number X555DG. Very useful for any of Asus X555 series which include :

X555L, X555LA, X555LB, X555LD, X555LF, X555LI, X555LJ, X555LN, X555LP, X555U, X555UA, X555UB, X555UF, X555UJ, X555DA, X555DG, X555QA, X555QG, X555SJ, X555YA

Then, how about other brands such as Lenovo, Acer, Dell etc? Well, this procedure might be usefull as most of laptops basically have the same disassemble guide with only minor deference's.

* Please understand any circumstance that may occur are under your responsibility. This tutorial is for side reference only. You may also need to seek expert for guidance.



Tools that we needed :

2. Philips Screwdriver

1. REMOVING ALL SCREW

First step is please remove all the bottom screw using screwdriver. Make sure you remember all screw and it's hole because most of the screw are not the same size and length.



2. STRETCHING THE TOP AND BOTTOM COVER / CASE


Use Opener Pry Tool to stretch out the cover. DO NOT OPEN THE COVER YET. Just stretch slightly until bottom cover and top cover of the laptop split a little bit.



3. OPENING THE TOP COVER

Slightly push the Top Cover (the one with Keyboard + Touch-Pad) up and you will see Keyboard and Touch-Pad cable are connected to the logic board that sit at the bottom cover. 


Using Opener Pry tool, gently unlock the cable by lift up the Locking Tab. Then, slide out the cable. Do this to both Keyboard and Touch-Pad cable.



Now you can take out the top cover safely.



4. INSIDE ASUS X555DG

Below are view of components inside Asus X555DG. Other laptop brand usually have more or less the same components.


1. Left I/O connector
2. On board Soldered RAM (This laptop use 4GB DDR3L)
3. Logic Board
4. CPU Fan
5. DVD Drive
6. Laptop Battery
7. Hard Disk Drive / HDD (This laptop use 500gb 5400rpm HGST)
8. Right I/O connector


5. REMOVING DVD DRIVE

Use screwdriver to remove the DVD Drive screw first.


Slide DVD Drive to the right and keep it in the safe place


6. REMOVING BATTERY

There are three screw that mount the battery to the bottom cover. Use screwdriver again to remove the screw.


Lift up the battery and then you may take it out from the laptop. Keep it in the safe place


7. DISCONNECTING LEFT I/O BOARD

Before you can accesses Hard Disk Drive, you need to remove Right I/O board as it blocking the Hard Disk.


Use screw driver to remove I/O Board screw first (see picture above)


Then, same method as disconnecting Keyboard and Touch-Pad cable earlier, use Opener Pry Tool to lift up Locking Tab so the I/O Cable can be release.



Now you can take out I/O Board using Opener Pry Tool.



8. TIME TO REMOVE THE HARD DISK DRIVE

Remove two screw that mounted the Hard disk to the Logic Board


Slightly slide Hard Disk to the right. The Hard disk will be disconnected from the Logic Board (See picture below)



Here are the view of Top Cover (Keyboard + Touch-Pad), DVD Drive, Battery and hard disk Drive after been remove from the laptop.



9. SEPARATING HARD DISK DRIVE FROM HDD FRAME COVER

This is the simple method. Just remove all four screws located at the side of the Hard disk Frame.
