HOW TO UPGRADE RAM + SSD ASUS VIVOBOOK S14 A411U

Do your laptop is feeling slow when copying big files, sluggish or chocking up when you have too many tabs open? Nowadays data size are increasing rapidly. copying data will take longer time and need more faster hard drive, multitasking will make your system work more. Upgrade more RAM and faster storage such as SSD could solve the problem.

The most common RAM upgrade are usually costs between $20 and $35 for 4GB. You might get more cheaper price on Ebay and Amazon.

For m.2 SSD, the price are starting around $30 for 120gb SATA3. NVME types are slightly expensive. But as long its is SSD, they are faster than traditional 5400rpm Hard disk drive (HDD).

The process of swapping out RAM stick and m.2 SSD should take between around 5 minutes to 10 minutes only. Here's how to upgrade your laptop's RAM and m.2 SSD.

1. PREPARING TOOLS AND UNDERSTANDING YOUR LAPTOP SPECIFICATION

Most of Asus Vivobook s14 family have both RAM and M.2 SLOT. But it is great to make sure to checking your vivobook model specification first on Asus website. 


The tools we use here :

1. Asus Vivobook S14 A411U
2. Ram DDR4 2133mhz 8GB CRUCIAL - $70
3. NVME SSD m.2 LITEON MU X 128GB - $69
4. m.2 SSD Screw
5. Philips Screwdriver
* Please understand any circumstance that may occur are under your responsibility. This tutorial is for side reference only. You may also need need to seek expert for guidance.

There are 11 screw need to remove at the bottom of the laptops. We're dealing with 2 size of screw here :


2. REMOVING BOTTOM SCREW

There are 11 screw need to remove at the bottom of the laptops. We're dealing with 2 size of screw here :

Red circle : 4x screws length 1cm 
Green circle : 7x screw lenght 0.5cm



Use Philips screwdriver (recommended small size screwdriver) to remove all the screw.


After all screw has been remove, please keep it in the safe place.



2 : OPENING ASUS VIVOBOOK BOTTOM COVER

Carefully open then bottom cover using Triangle Pry tool. you may also use guitar picks or unused card such as expired credit card


Here are the view inside the laptops after cover been removed (image below).

Red Rectangle : m.2 SSD Slots
Blue Rectangle : DDR4 Ram slots



3. INSTALLING M.2 SSD

In this tutorial, we use LITEON MU X NVME SSD with 128gb. It has 1500MB/s read and 500MB/s write. This is one of the affordable nvme SSD i get from online.


Carefully Insert the SSD into the m.2 slot in 40 degree angle (see picture below).


Push down and lock the SSD to the board with SSD screw. Mount the SSD using screwdriver. (You may need to buy SSD screw separately)


Done. You now just finish installing m.2 SSD :)


4 : ADDING RAM STICK

Asus Vivobook S14 with A411U model are comes with onboard 4GB 2133mhz ram. But it also come with a single empty slot ram that can be added later.


In this tutorial, we decide to add 8GB DDR4 2133Mhz from CRUCIAL by MICRON that i get for $70 from Amazon



Installing RAM is easy. Slide-in RAM STICK in to the RAM SLOT with 40 degree angle (Image above) and then push down until it locked the RAM STICK to the motherboard (image below).

That's It. Don't forget to put back bottom cover and all the screw. This method also can be apply to other Vivobook S14 family model such as X411UF or S410U.

  1. hello, what ssd are supported by a411u, are nvme support too, because i see the slot like nvme m.2 ssd, but u're using sata 3.0 m.2 ssd
